Jean-Denis Barbié, known as Barbié du Bocage1, born in Paris 1760 and died in this city on 1825, was a French geographer and cartographer.


Became the sole pupil of Jean-Baptiste Bourguignon d'Anville (1697-1782), the king's first geographer, member of the Académie des inscriptions et belle-lettres (1754) and the Royal Academy of Sciences (1773), who trained him in geography.


In 1786, Barbié du Bocage enriched M. d'Anville's world map with new discoveries up to that point.
