Map of North Africa-Claudius Ptolemaeus 1574.

16th century ancient map of the Mediterranean with North Africa showing today's day Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Sicily (with burning volcano), Malta Sardinia and Sicily.

The map first appeared in the 1561 edition of Ruscelli's edition of Ptolemy's Geografia.The present example is the scarce third state of hte map, which adds the sailing ship.

Artists: Claudius Ptolemaeus revised and corrected by Giovanni Malombra, after Girolamo Ruscelli's translation.
Printer: Giordano Ziletti Venice 1574.
