Description:
This antique print shows a double view of Cape Verde Island’s coastline. The print is a copperplate engraving with hand coloring, crafted by the renowned French mapmaker Jacques Nicolas Bellin. The detailed depiction captures the island as seen from two different perspectives at sea.

Cartographer/Mapmaker:
Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772), a French hydrographer and mapmaker, was a member of the Académie de Marine and the Royal Society of London. His work is widely featured in Histoire Générale des Voyages.

Engraver:
Jakob van der Schley (1715 – 1779), a Dutch engraver who studied under Bernard Picart, signed many plates in the Dutch edition of Prévost's Histoire Générale des Voyages.

Publishers:
Prévost, Abbé (1697–1763), Meusnier de Querlon (1702–1780), and Pierre de Hondt, The Hague (1747–1780).

Sheet approx.: 18.5 x 24.5 cm (7.25 x 9.75 inches).
Image approx.: 14 x 19 cm (5.5 x 7.5 inches).

Condition:
An 18th-century antique original print, in very good condition, with no flaws.
