Description:
A detailed antique map of the Bay of Arguin, located on the West Coast of Africa, covering the coastline from Cap Timiris to Cap Blanc, including the islands of Arguin and Tidra in Mauritania. The map is beautifully copperplate engraved with hand coloring and features a compass rose, depths, sandbanks, and an elegant title cartouche.

Cartographer/Mapmaker:
Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772), born in Paris, served as the hydrographer of France's hydrographic office and was a member of the Académie de Marine and the Royal Society of London. Over his 50-year career, he produced numerous maps for the French Navy.
Engraver:
Jakob van der Schley, a Dutch engraver who studied under Bernard Picart, engraved most of the plates for the Dutch edition of Prévost's Histoire générale des voyages.
Publishers:
Prévost, Abbé (1697-1763), Meusnier de Querlon (1702-1780), and Pierre de Hondt (The Hague, between 1747 – 1780).
