Cartographer/Mapmaker: Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772), a Royal Hydrographer, engineer of the French Navy, and a member of the Royal Society, was one of the most prolific and influential cartographers of the 18th century. His maps were used by mariners and explorers across the world, and his work, such as this map, demonstrates his attention to detail and precision.

Origin: Published in Le Petit Atlas Maritime Recueil De Cartes et Plans Des Quatre Parties Du Monde in 1764.
