Description: Lewardum Occidentalis Frisiae Opp 1581, an antique copperplate engraved map with description at verso of the cities Leeuwarden, Dokkum and Franeker in the province Friesland by Lodovico Guicciardini, an Italian historian and cartographer who lived from 1521 to 1589.

Guicciardini is known for his work in compiling detailed maps and descriptions of various regions in Europe. In his book "Descrittione di tutti i Paesi Bassi," a detailed account of the history, geography, and culture of the Low Countries.

Cartographer: Lodovico Guicciardini (1521-1589) was an Italian historian, writer, and cartographer, who is best known for his work on the history and geography of the Low Countries (modern-day Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg).

Guicciardini was born in Florence, Italy, in 1521, into a noble family. He received an education in law, but his interests lay in history and geography, which he pursued by traveling extensively throughout Europe. In the course of his travels, he became acquainted with the leading figures of his time, including William the Silent, the leader of the Dutch Revolt against Spanish rule.
