Description: Old map of Bremen and Bremerhaven in lithographic color from Meyers Lextion published in Leipzig in various editions from 1829 until in the 20e century.
History: The first stone city walls were built in 1032. Around this time trade with Norway, England and the northern Netherlands began to grow, thus increasing the importance of the city. Originally a Hansa was a company of merchants trading with foreign lands. After the German push eastward and the settlement of German towns in the Slavic lands of the Baltic, the merchant guilds and town associations led (13th cent.) to leagues.
