Description: Ville de Diu, old antique map of the surrounding area of the sea fortress Diu on the west coast of India. The Portugal led by Afonso de Albuquerque built the fortress during their colonial rule. The map is copperplate engraved with hand-coloring and derived from Antonine de Prevost d' Exile's Histoire generale des voyages 1749.
Mapmaker Cartographer: Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 21 March 1772) Bellin was born in Paris. He was hydrographer of France's hydrographic office, member of the Académie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. Over a 50 year career, he produced a large number of maps of particular interest to the Ministère de la Marine.
