Old print of Ossa Russia was founded in 1591 or 1596 as the Sloboda of Novonikolskaïa (Новоникольская) and later became a fortress. In a document of 1623, the town is designated as the Sloboda of Ossinskaïa Nikolskaya (Осинская Никольская) in 1678 as the Sloboda of Ossinskaïa (Осинская) and as the village (selo) of Ossa in 1732.Ossa has city status since 1739.
