Description:
Fine hand colored copperplate engraving of the Black Sea (between SE Europe and Asia, connected with the Mediterranean Sea by the Bosporus, the Sea of Marmara, and the Dardanelles.) and the Caspian Sea (ancient Caspium Mare or Hyrcanium Mare) largest saltwater lake in southeastern Europe and southwestern Asia is the largest inland body of water in the world.
The map is copperplate engraved and hand colored. Origin: Geographia Antiqua Date: 1771

Christophorus Cellarius (real name: Christoph Keller, (1638 -1707 was professor of rhetoric and history at the newly founded University of Halle. He promoted through its publications not only the Latin linguistics, but also the science of history.
(Copperplates from Cellarius are used in various publications after his death.)
