Origin: Maior Atlas scholasticus ex triginta sex generalibus et specialibus. Homann's Maior Atlas was first published in 1716 by Johann Homann, the founder of the famous Nuremberg map publishing house. It quickly became the standard gentleman's library atlas around Europe, particularly in German-speaking areas.
