Porto Venere (until 1991 Portovenere) is a town and commune (municipality) located on the Ligurian coast of Italy in the province of La Spezia. It comprises the three villages of Fezzano, Le Grazie and Porto Venere, and the three islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto. In 1997 Porto Venere and the villages of Cinque Terre were designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Copper engraving by Joseph Roux Published in Roux's: Recueil des principaux plans des Ports et Rades de la Mer Mediterranee escraits … In 1764, Roux had released an album titled Recueil des Principaux Plans des Ports et Rades de la Mer Méditerranée ..., inclusive of 121 harbor plans, with neither explanatory text nor captions. The charts are engraved rather coarsely, contain little nautical information and have different scales and orientation, due to the small size of the charts. They provide no geographical coordinates.
