Title: Schematismus Geographiae Mathematicae, id est repraesentatio figurarum in quantum ad aliqualem globi terraquei et mapparum intelligentiam . . . 1753.
Description: Interesting chart with various astronomic diagrams, showing a terrestrial globe, armillary sphere, compass rose, the theories of the solar system and a host of other scientific and mathematical diagrams.
The Tychonic system (or Tychonian system) was a model of the Solar System published by Tycho Brahe in the late 16th century which combined what he saw as the mathematical benefits of the Copernican system with the philosophical and "physical" benefits of the Ptolemaic system.
Copernican heliocentrism is the name given to the astronomical model developed by Nicolaus Copernicus and published in 1543. It positioned the Sun near the center of the Universe, motionless, with Earth and the other planets rotating around it in circular paths modified by epicycles and at uniform speeds.
Origin: Atlas Geographicus Maior by Homann Heirs, Nuremberg.
Cartographer: Johann Baptist Homann 1663-1724. Nuremberg Germany.
Homann died in Nuremberg. He was succeeded by the Homann heirs company, which was in business until 1848. The company was known as "Homann Erben", "Homanniani Heredes", or "Heritiers de Homann" abroad. Homann's Maior Atlas was first published in 1716 by Johann Homann, the founder of the famous Nuremberg map publishing house. It quickly became the standard gentleman's library atlas around Europe, particularly in German-speaking areas. After Johann's death in 1724 his son ran the business until his death in 1730 and then the firm became Homann Heirs, a combination of family and other geographers who pursued the commercial atlas market with considerable success.
