Description: Antique geographic map of the German river systems, with an baroque decor title cartouche included Neptune, mermaids putties and other deities of mythology. In the upper cartouche we find dedication text by Friedrich Heinrich Zollmann.
Map maker: Johann Baptist Homann 1663-1724. Homann's Maior Atlas was first published in 1716 by Johann Homann, the founder of the famous Nuremberg map publishing house. It quickly became the standard gentleman's library atlas around Europe, particularly in German-speaking areas. After Johann's death in 1724 his son ran the business until his death. In 1730 and then the firm became Homann Heirs, a combination of family and other geographers who pursued the commercial atlas market with considerable success.
