Description: Szerencs, Hungary. A detailed 17th-century map depicting the encampment around the fortified town of Szerencs (Serenz) during a battle between the Ottoman and Habsburg forces in 1661.
Cartographer: Matthäus Merian. Merian's most renowned work was the Topographia Germaniae, a collection of 16 volumes published between 1642 and 1654, which was later expanded to 30 volumes by his heirs. The text for the Topographia Germaniae was written by Martin Zeiller.
This is an original antique copper plate engraving, hand-colored.
