Principatus Silesia Old map Poland Central Europe Homann 1738

Title: Principatus Silesia Oppaviensis novissima tabula geographica…

Description: Large 18th century map of Silesia showing the bordering of Silesia begin the 18th century. Copper map with hand coloring and two title cartouches.

Silesia's borders and national affiliation have changed over time, both when it was a hereditary possession of noble houses and after the rise of modern nation-states.
The first known states to hold power there were probably those of Greater Moravia at the end of the 9th century and Bohemia early in the 10th century. In the 10th century, Silesia was incorporated into the early Polish state, and after its division in the 12th century became a Piast duchy.
In the 14th century, it became a constituent part of the Bohemian Crown Lands under the Holy Roman Empire, which passed to the Austrian Habsburg Monarchyin 1526.

Author: Johann Wolfgang Wieland was an Austrian lieutenant and cartographer who operated in the Czech countries during the reign of Charles VI.
In 1722 on the territory of Silesia, Weiland began to carry out very detailed cartographer work, but he was called back to Osstenrijk to perform other duties. Wieland died in Vienna in October 1736.
Homann's heirs were given the assignment to merge Weiland's maps into an atlas. Matthäus von Schubarth was instructed to revise the maps.
The Weiland cards were released in Atlas Silesiae Id Est Ducatus Silesiae…

Origin: Atlas Silesiae Id Est Ducatus Silesiae…
