Title: A Chingulais A Couverts De La Pluie Ou Du Soleil fous la feille de Talipo.

Description: This antique print from 1750 depicts Ceylon Natives (Sri Lanka) using a traditional flat umbrella, made from Talipot palm leaves, to protect themselves from rain or sun. The print, with its detailed copperplate engraving and hand coloring, was published in the 1750 edition of Histoire de Ceylon by the renowned mapmaker Jacques Nicolas Bellin.

Cartographer/Mapmaker: Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772), a Paris-born hydrographer to the French Navy, a member of the Académie de Marine and the Royal Society of London, was known for his extensive contributions to cartography. His work frequently depicted maritime regions and people, as seen in this particular print.
