It provides a detailed representation of the layout of Lille during the early 17th century, including its streets, buildings, fortifications, and surrounding landscape.

Old maps of France cities in the Blaeu, De Wit, Ortelius and Mercator atlases were made by, among others, the cartographer Jacob van Deventer.

Cartographer: Jacob Roelofs van Deventer, was a Dutch cartographer who made the oldest series of maps of Dutch cities of his time.
He became in 1543 Royal Geographer.
