Large antique map of L'Empire du Japon includes the four major islands of Honshu, Kyushu, Shikoku and part of Hokkaido (identified by the historical name "Eso").
In the near waters there are numerous smaller islands, completing the picture of the Japanese archipelago.
The map provides a fascinating representation of the Japanese archipelago as understood in 1750 and shows a decorative title cartouche, and mileage scale.

Map maker: Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688–1766), also known as Le Sieur or Monsieur Robert, and his son, Didier Robert de Vaugondy (c.1723–1786), were leading cartographers in France during the 18th century.

Dimensions and condition
This impressive map measures 27.5 x 20.25 inches (670 x 51 cm) overall, with the image itself measuring 21 x 18.75 inches (53 x 48 cm).
Condition: map remains in good condition, showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship of 18th-century cartography.
