Description: An antique map of the course of the St. Lawrence River in Canada, stretching from Anticosti Island to Quebec West. This is an original copperplate engraving with hand coloring.
Cartographer: Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772) was appointed hydrographer to the French Navy at the age of 18 in 1721. In 1741, he became the first "Ingénieur de la Marine" of the French Hydrographical Office (Depot des cartes et plans de la Marine) and served as the Official Hydrographer to the French King. Bellin was a member of the Académie de Marine and the Royal Society of London, producing numerous maps over his 50-year career, especially for the Ministère de la Marine.
Engraver: Jakob van der Schley (1715 – 1779) was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver who studied under Bernard Picart.
