Description: Suomenlinna (Sveaborg, Swedish) fortification, was built in the second half of the 18th century on eight islands by Sweden, located at the entrance to the port of Helsinki. Within the walls was a garrison town with barracks and residential buildings, and a naval base with its dry docks and storage buildings. Suomenlinna was a Swedish fortress until 1808, but at the same time it was also an important naval base. Today, Suomenlinna is one of Finland's fortifications.
