Cartographer/Mapmaker: Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772), born in Paris, was a French hydrographer who served France’s hydrographic office. Bellin was a member of the Académie de Marine and the Royal Society of London. His extensive cartographic work includes this map, published as part of Antoine-François Prévost's monumental 20-volume edition of L`Histoire Generale des Voyages by Pierre de Hondt, The Hague.
