Cartographer: Jacob Roelofs van Deventer, was a Dutch cartographer who made the oldest series of maps of Dutch cities of his time. He became in 1543 Royal Geographer.
Over fifteen years, he created between 250 and 260 city maps, covering an area from Friesland to what is today northern France, reaching into Luxembourg and western Germany.
More than 10 years after the publication of the maps of Jacob van Deventer came Georg Braun and Franz Hogenberg and Guicciardini with their city maps based on the maps of van Deventer.
