Tierra del Fuego Argentina and Isla de los Estados street Argentina.
The Le Maire Strait (Estrecho de le Maire) (also the Straits Lemaire) is a sea passage between Isla de los Estados and the eastern extremity of the Argentine portion of Tierra del Fuego.

Jacob Le Maire and Willem Schouten discovered the strait in 1616, while attempting to find a navigation link between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and shortly before their discovery of Cape Horn.

Cartographer: Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772).
In 1721, at age 18, he was appointed hydrographer (chief cartographer) to the French Navy.
In August 1741, he became the first Ingénieur de la Marine of the Depot des cartes et plans de la Marine (the French Hydrographical Office) and was named Official Hydrographer of the French King.
