Description:
This historical antique map depicts Ambon Island in the Maluku archipelago of Indonesia during the 18th century. The map is copperplate engraved and hand-colored, originally published in Antonine de Prévost d'Exile's Histoire Generale des Voyages.

Cartographer:
Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772), born in Paris, served as the hydrographer of France's hydrographic office and was a member of the Académie de Marine and the Royal Society of London.

Engraver:
Jakob van der Schley (1715 – 1779), a Dutch draughtsman and engraver who studied under Bernard Picart.

Technique:
Handmade paper, copperplate engraving, hand coloring, dated 1758.

Size:
Sheet approx.: 36 x 25 cm (14 x 9.75 inches).
Image approx.: 30 x 21.5 cm (12 x 8.5 inches).

Condition:
A fine hand-colored map in very good condition, with detailed information and no defects.
