This carefully engraved steel plate map with hand coloring manufactured in 1831 shows historic buildings with illustrations of the prominent buildings of Madrid including the Gate of Alcala, the Royal Palace, Convent of Visitation, Gate of St.Vincent, and the Duke of Berwick's Palace parks.
The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK) was one of the most ambitious educational projects of the nineteenth century. Founded in 1826, mainly at the instigation of Lord Brougham.
