The print shows the town as it appeared in the mid-16th century, with its fortified walls and prominent churches.

Chur is the oldest town in Switzerland, with a history that dates back over 5,000 years. It was an important settlement for the Celts and the Romans, and later became a center for Christianity in the region.

In the Middle Ages, Chur was an important trading town and a center for handicrafts. It was also the seat of the Bishop of Chur, and the town's cathedral, St. Maria Himmelfahrt, is still an important landmark today.

This is a original woodcut from the edition III by Sebastian Munster.
