Chur Switzerland, 16th century early historical antique woodcut map of Sebastian Munster German edition of Cosmographia. The engraving shows the old city in bird eye view with churches, castles and fortifications. The town was located at the intersection of several major trade routes, which made it a hub for the production and distribution of textiles and pottery.

Mapmaker / Cartographer: Sebastian Munster (1488-1552) Sebastian worked as a lecturer at the University of the Franciscan Order in Tübingen, where he studied astrology to the famous astronomer Johannes Stöffler. in addition to his main work, the Cosmographia, Sebastian Munster wrote some very extensive work in the field of Hebrew studies, natural science, geography, and theology. The map is an antique woodblock German edition print from Sebastian Munsters Cosmographia, published by Heinrich Petri in Basel.
Henricus Petrus (1508–1579) and his son Sebastian Henric Petri (1546, Basel – 1627, Basel) headed the printer shop of Basel (Basilea in Latin), called Officina Henricpetrina.
