Guadalupe was first visited by Columbus on his second journey in 1493, he called the island Santa Maria de Guadalupe. Artist: Mariette, Pierre (c. 1603-1657) Mariette was born to a long-established and highly successful family of engravers, book publishers and dealer in old master prints in Paris, and was a central figure in the artistic culture of the city for decades.
