The Ortelius atlas was frequently reprinted up to 1612, with many of the maps re-engraved and up-dated in time.
For buyers who were not strong in Latin, from the end of 1572, in addition to the Latin version, Dutch, German and French editions were published.
The publication of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum is often considered as the official beginning of the Golden Age of Netherlandish cartography.

Mapmaker: Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598), a Flemish scholar and geographer is regarded as one of the most prominent geographers of the sixteenth century. Before the publication of the Theatrum, Ortelius was a respected student of classical history and a collector of books and old coins but had found only modest acclaim for his cartographic skills.
